Bridal Chain Alfred Angelo Files Bankruptcy

Mary Conner PoolAs anyone who has planned a wedding knows, the wedding gown is one of the most important- and pricey- decisions the bride will make.  Brides around the country are in a panic now that the bridal chain Alfred Angelo has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.  The company reportedly closed all 61 of its stores this past Thursday as part of its plan to file bankruptcy.

No Warning

This past week, all Alfred Angelo stores all shut down with little to no warning to its customers. The closings came as a big surprise to customers of the 80 year old company.  The customers were not the only ones who were unaware of the stores’ closings.  Reportedly, some employees showed up to work on Thursday only to find out that they no longer had jobs.  Employees also reported they had not been paid for their last week of work.

Patricia Ann Redmond of Miami is Alfred Angelo’s bankruptcy attorney, and her email address is on the notices taped to the door of the now closed stores.  Redmond told the Miami Herald that she has received around 7300 emails since the stores shut down.  She stated that she has been prioritizing emails by the dates of their weddings.

There is still no mention of the closings on Alfred Angelo’s social media or website.  However women are using the retailer’s Facebook page to commiserate and share information.  Multiple brides reported that they left their wedding dresses with seamstresses through Alfred Angelo, and other women are sharing names and contact information for seamstresses to try to reunite the brides with their paid-for dresses.

Alfred Angelo filed for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which means it will liquidate its assets and pay creditors with any proceeds, instead of trying to restructure its debts and continue to operate.  Bankruptcies for individuals work much the same way, on a much smaller scale.  If you are in financial trouble, please give one of our offices a call and set up your free consultation today.
