Federal Tax Liens and Tax Debt: Celebrities Are Not Exempt From Tax Woes

Amy TannerAccording to a recent CNN report, the Internal Revenue Service has filed a tax lien against singer, actress and former Miss America, Vanessa Williams. She currently owes federal tax debt on her 2011 earnings for $369,249. Ms. Williams' career began in the 1980’s amid scandal when she relinquished the Miss America Crown to the first runner up when nude photos of her appeared during her reign. She quickly rebounded as a singer and actress, however, success is not exempt from the IRS!

Chris Tucker can attest to this as well. According to the same CNN report, he recently reached resolution with the IRS on a $2.5 million tax lien. Singer Lauryn Hill actually spent three months in federal prison as a result of unpaid taxes. Tax woes have and continue to haunt many other celebrities including Ozzy Osbourne, Willie Nelson, Nicholas Cage and the list goes on. Many of these debts run into the millions of dollars for some of these celebrities.

Most average American taxpayers will not see tax debt into the millions; however, it may be an amount that is too large to handle on their own. If you have tax debt and cannot manage paying it on your own, our attorneys may be able to help you find a way to pay the debt or possibly discharge the tax debt in bankruptcy. If you are suffering any financial hardship, please contact our office nearest you and schedule a free initial consultation with one of our experienced attorneys to discuss your financial situation.
